Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Team
Looking to catch some great NHL action this season? Make sure you check out the Toronto Maple Leaf hockey team. There are many other sporting franchises in the city of Toronto, and many other professional hockey clubs scattered across Canada. However, there is something truly special about the 13-time Stanley Cup Champions. It isn't easy to describe, but it's almost like you can feel the electricity in the air when the current players don the blue and white jerseys, lace up the skates, and hit the ice at the Air Canada Centre. So it shouldn't really surprise anyone that, year in and year out, the Maple Leafs sell a higher percentage of their available home tickets than any other local sports franchise. So if you want to pick up seats this season to see NHL hockey in Toronto, act quickly before its too late.
Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Team: The First 50 Years
Few franchises have enjoyed more on-ice success, especially early on, than the Toronto Maple Leaf hockey team. In fact, for the first 50 years after the team was founded in 1917, the Leafs were simply phenominal. Twice during this period, Toronto managed to win four Stanley Cup championships within a six year span. The first time was from 1947 through 1951, as Hall of Famers Bill Barilko, Ted Kennedy, Syl Apps and Max Bentley lead the franchise to three straight titles in 1947, 1948 and 1949 and then again in 1951. During this time, they won 35 of 46 playoff games. Then, roughly a decade after their first dynasty, the Leafs started their second, winning three straight Stanley Cups from 1962 through 1964 and claming a fourth three seasons later. They won twice as many Cup Finals contests as they lost during that span, thanks largely to the contributions of Terry Sawchuk, Tim Horton, Johnny Bower, Frank Mahovlich and George Armstrong -- also, all Hall of Famers. Few other hockey teams can boast such a pedigree.
